It was not the Adrian Mannarino of the good days who showed up on the court for this second round of the Washington Open. Exempted from the first round as seeded n°7, the Frenchman was quickly annoyed against Jordan Thomson, an opponent who had already given him a hard time recently in the quarter-finals in Newport, on grass.
However, Mannarino had ideally started with a break from the first game. But, as Thompson picked up speed, the Frenchman came out of the game. While serving to win the first set at 5-4, he conceded his serve on a double fault. Mannarino threw down his racket. A gesture of irritation that he was going to repeat in the next game and which earned him a warning. He might call himself quiet out loud, nothing helped and the Australian took the first set after having lined up three games in a row.
Mannarino held on somehow in the second set, but still showed no more serenity. He ended up dropping his serve at the worst time, at 5-4 Thompson, synonymous with victory for his opponent.
