After 13 years: Arnautovic returns to Inter

FC Bologna let the now 34-year-old striker move to Inter. The club will initially loan the Austrian for one season and then have a purchase option. All in all, according to media reports, the deal should amount to up to ten million euros. The then 20-year-old had already switched to Inter in 2009. Although the treble was achieved in the 2009/10 season, Arnautovic only made three appearances in Serie A, so his personal contribution was manageable.

So now he’s trying again. “It’s a great honor for me to play for Inter again. When I was here thirteen years ago I was more of a fan than a player, but now I’m here to help the team and win,” Arnautovic said quoted.

In retrospect, he sees himself quite critically. He used to be a “hothead” and didn’t think about football that much. “Everything is different now, I have a family and have become calmer,” Arnautovic estimates.

Arnautovic: “I want to win a trophy”

His intentions at Inter are clear: “I want to win a trophy.” He recently showed his qualities at FC Bologna and scored 24 goals in 54 games in two years – a rate that coach Simone Inzaghi would probably also be satisfied with.

Up front Edin Dzeko (Fenerbahce) and Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) have left the club. In addition to Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram from Gladbach came as reinforcement. He now faces competition from Arnautovic, who has already completed his first training session with his new colleagues.

The first game of the new season is on Saturday (8:45 p.m.) against Monza.
