Andrey Rublev eliminated in the second round in Toronto

Year after year, Andrey Rublev has been a regular at the Masters 1000 in Canada, where he has never made it past the round of 16. Beaten as soon as he entered the competition in Montreal in 2022 (by Daniel Evans), the Russian once again took the door on his debut in Toronto on Wednesday. The 7th in the world was clearly dominated (6-4, 6-3) in 1h26 by Mackenzie McDonald (59th), who offered his third top of the season after Rafael Nadal (2nd) at the Australian Open and Taylor Fritz (9th) at Eastbourne.

Dropped by his service (40% of first serves), Rublev did not manage to break the American from the game, despite two chances. McDonald will be opposed to Taro Daniel (115th) or Milos Raonic (545th) for a place in the quarters.
