Casper Ruud released as soon as he entered the running in Cincinnati by Max Purcell

After Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner, surprised by Dusan Lajovic, a new member of the top 10 fell on Wednesday. This is Casper Ruud, 7th in the world. The Norwegian finished on two big forehand mistakes and lost (6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in 1h59) against Max Purcell, 70th in the world and from qualifying, Wednesday, in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000.

The Australian, very offensive – 30 net climbs, 18 successful as well as 38 winning shots – was much more realistic on break points than the finalist of the last Roland-Garros: he converted 2 out of 3, against 1 out of 7 for Ruud. Purcell, who offers the best victory of his career, will be opposed to Frances Tiafoe (10th) or Stan Wawrinka (51st).

Ruud has had a bad run since his lost final at Roland-Garros. He was eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon, could not do better than a final in Bastad and a quarter-final in Hamburg, and he was eliminated in the round of 16 in Toronto last week. He begins, in less than two weeks, the defense of the points obtained thanks to his final at the US Open in 2022.
