Holger Rune knocked out in second round in Toronto

Holger Rune (seeded n°5) fell from the start of the second round of the Masters 1000 in Toronto. The Dane, world number 6, suffered the law of the American Marcos Giron, 70th at ATP and from qualifying (6-2, 4-6, 6-3). At the age of 30, the latter recorded the best victory of his career, only the second against a top 10. Very irregular in service (56% first serve, 12 double faults), Rune ended up giving in after his fiftieth fault direct.

Alcaraz, winning return

In the other matches of the night, world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz got rid of American Ben Shelton (6-3, 7-6 (3)). For his first match more than a month after his triumph at Wimbledon, the Spaniard had to fight against the aggressive tennis of the 41st in the world. He has an appointment in the next round with the Pole Hubert Hurkcaz.

Jannik Sinner emerged victorious from the 100% Italian duel against Matteo Berrettini (6-4, 6-3) and will find the stainless Andy Murray (36) in the next round, who dominated the Australian Max Purcell after three hard sets (7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-5) and almost three hours of play.
