Iga Swiatek in the semis in Cincinnati thanks to her victory over Marketa Vondrousova

Iga Swiatek is reconciling with Cincinnati. In a tournament that had never succeeded in previous years (third round at best), the world No. 1 this time imposed her standards and qualified for the semi-finals in Ohio. She beat the Czech Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets to climb into the last four (7-6 (3), 6-1).

The winner of the last Wimbledon will undoubtedly have some regrets compared to the first set. Twice she served to win it and both times she failed to finish, overtaken by her faults and by the accuracy of the Polish in the moments that mattered. Author of a lot of gifts in this first act (21 unforced errors), Swiatek managed to tighten the game in the decisive game like this winning backhand along the line and this uncrossed forehand.

The sequel was one-sided or almost with a Vondrousova more and more regularly overtaken by the strike force of her rival. She gave up a first break on a fault before being double broken a few games later. Swiatek didn’t let go and even allowed himself to conclude with a winning forehand on an opposing service. In the last four, she will find Coco Gauff or Jasmine Paolini on Saturday.
