Apple’s new A17 Bionic chip, which is to be used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, has a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU, according to the leaker “Unknownz21”. For comparison, the current A16 chip has a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, so the A17 should bring notable GPU improvements to the new top models, Macrumors reports referring to.
According to Wccftech, the iPhone 15 Pro will possibly be the best gaming phone on the market, since the A16 Bionic in the iPhone 14 Pro already clearly outperforms the competition. In addition, the A17 chip is said to have a maximum clock speed of 3.70 GHz, compared to 3.46 GHz for the A16 chip. The information shared by “Unknownz21” on Twitter also indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro models will come with the same 6 GiB of RAM as the iPhone 14 Pro models.
iPhone 15 Pro: Up to 15 percent more performance?
Meanwhile, previous rumors have said that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will feature 8 GiB of RAM, which the leaker says is “unlikely” but not impossible. The A17 chip, which is based on a new 3-nanometer process for the first time, could offer a performance improvement of 10 to 15 percent compared to the A16 (4 nanometers), according to Macrumors, while at the same time power consumption could decrease by up to 30 percent .
Since the 3nm process is still new, the A17 chip will be more expensive to manufacture and only available in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The base models of the iPhone 15, meanwhile, are expected to use the A16 chip currently found in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The launch of the new iPhones is expected along with the new Apple Watch Series 9 on September 12th.
