Luis Enrique on the Mbappé cause: "The club is above everything"

According to “Le Parisien”, Mbappé only made it clear to PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi on Thursday that he would under no circumstances leave the club this summer and would fulfill his one-year contract in the French capital – despite the ongoing one Demotion to “Training Group 2”.

Mbappé will certainly not be part of the squad that starts the league at home against FC Lorient on Saturday (9 p.m., LIVE! on kicker). A bitter sporting loss for the French champions, of course. New coach Luis Enrique is all the more hoping for a good and, above all, quick solution for all sides. “I hope that the club and Mbappé will find an agreement,” said the Spaniard at a press conference on Friday.

But the 53-year-old also emphasized that nothing is more important than the club’s philosophy: “The club is above everything.”

Because Mbappé has clearly rejected an extension of his contract, which runs until 2024, PSG is threatened with a free transfer next summer. In Paris, the national striker is now training with the group of players with whom the club is no longer planning for the new season.

Meanwhile, what does Luis Enrique expect from his existing staff? “I want to have 95 to 100 minutes in which the team wants to be competitive. I don’t want ten minutes of madness, I want total football, pressing. The team is ready to fight, we want to make people happy,” was the clear demand of the Spaniard but at the same time urges caution. “Maybe we don’t have that rhythm from the first game, it’s going to be a difficult game.”
