Max Verstappen believed the car was on the track – second-placed Lando Norris was also happy: “I estimated that we would be 35 seconds behind Ferrari”

Lando Norris and Max Verstappen are on the podium.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen is difficult to stop. He took his fourth win of the season when he won the event in China by 14 seconds over second-place finisher Lando Norris. Valtteri Bottas had a short day at work.

The fifth Formula 1 race of the season did not offer any great drama. Victory in Shanghai went to the big favorite, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who took his 58th victory in his career.

The Dutchman is on his way to his fourth title in a row. Verstappen has won four out of five races this year.

– We were incredibly fast all weekend. “The car drove on rails, I could do whatever I wanted,” says Verstappen in the victory interview.

Norris guessed wrong

McLaren’s Lando Norris finished second, 14 seconds behind the winner and 5 seconds ahead of his Red Bull colleague Sergio Perez in third.

Norris was surprised by the car’s capabilities.

– I bet how far behind Ferrari we would be. “I gave a tip within 35 seconds and that tip went completely wrong,” says Norris.

The Ferrari drivers narrowly missed the podium, with Charles Leclerc finishing fourth and Carlos Sainz fifth.

Norris finished second for the eighth time and remains in search of his first F1 win.

Bottas had a short working day

Valtteri Bottas was in a good position after finishing tenth in qualifying on Saturday. The Finn was eleventh on lap 21 when the engine canceled the contract and Bottas had to retire. The Finn still has zero World Cup points.

– The engine suddenly lost power. Something broke, but I don’t know what. “We have to find out,” Bottas says in the Viaplay interview.

– It was unfortunate. I had a good race and could certainly have fought for points.

The season continues in two weeks in Miami, USA.
