"New strategic partnership" between Burnley FC and Sports Interactive

With the former Hamburg and long-time ManCity anchor Vincent Kompany, Burnley FC recently managed to be promoted directly back to the Premier League. When the Clarets start the new season in the English House of Lords against Manchester City on Friday at home in Turf Moor, advertisements for Football Manager will be placed on the boards. This is part of the “new strategic partnership” between the club and developer Sports Interactive (SI).

The announced deal will span this season and next, and will see “a series of exciting promotions and competitions across digital and social platforms” that the Clarets and the studio are collaborating on. It was not communicated whether the club would remain licensed in the game. Although all EFL clubs were shown true to the original last year, it is questionable whether Burnley will not fall out of this grid after promotion. When asked by kicker eSport, the developer said that all licensing will not be announced until September.

Kompany’s blitz championship caused quite a stir

“The club turned heads last season under Championship Manager of the Year – Vincent Kompany, playing brilliant football and winning the league in record time. Working with the club has been a pleasure from the start and we’re delighted looking forward to seeing the ‘Football Manager’ branding in the stadium for Friday night’s first game of the season against another longtime SI partner, Manchester City,” said Richard Trafford, Sports Interactive’s head of partnerships and business development.

Football Manager 2024 is not yet officially announced, but experience has shown that it will be in the fall. As studio director Miles Jacobson announced a few weeks ago, this installment will be “the last of its kind.” Large-scale changes are imminent from 2025 – above all there will be a new engine.
