PlayStation 5: 41.7 million consoles shipped - UPDATE

The figures for the first quarter of the current financial year are available and SONY states that 41.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been shipped.

SONY published the financial figures for the 1st quarter of the current financial year and can show positive results.

3.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles were shipped in the first quarter. That is 900,000 more than in the previous year. A total of 41.7 million PS5 consoles have been shipped worldwide since launch.

The platform operator also increased its software, i.e. games, compared to the previous year. Software was delivered 56.5 million times (+8.4 million), of which 6.6 million units are first-party games.

Hardware sales are up 41.8% year-on-year, while software sales are up 27.2%.

Total net sales for the first quarter were $4.91 billion, up 28% year over year. The operating result, on the other hand, was down 7% at $313.3 million.

SONY continues to report 108 million monthly active users, up 5 million from last year. Surprisingly, no new information was given about the PlayStation Plus subscribers and only lists 47.4 million from the fourth quarter of the previous year.
