Pole Hubert Hurkacz eliminates Borna Coric, defending champion in Cincinnati

End of course for the defending champion in Cincinnati. Borna Coric, winner in 2022, was eliminated Wednesday evening in the second round of the tournament by Hubert Hurkacz in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-3). The Croatian is set to fall in the ATP rankings on Monday, after dropping the 1,000 points he was due to defend in the United States.

Led 5-3 in the first set, Borna Coric nevertheless managed to win four games in a row, breaking and then breaking his opponent, to pocket the first set. The rest was, however, much more complicated for the Croatian, who dropped the second set and had to surrender in the last, after saving five match points.

In the next round, Hubert Hurkacz will face Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated American Ben Shelton in straight sets after a hotly contested match (7-6 (3), 7-6 (2)).
