The fact that there is a strike in Hollywood has hardly gone unnoticed, and now we are also starting to see the effects of it when new films and series are postponed or cancelled. Sometimes it also affects popular series that have actually drawn a large audience and have already been given the green light for new seasons. Such is the case with the two Amazon series A League of Their Own and The Peripheral. The strike is mentioned as the reason, but Abbi Jacobson, creator of the first one, does not agree that it would be the reason. In a “farewell” on Instagram, she thanks those who have been involved and the viewers, but she also takes the opportunity to give a boot to the decision makers, calling the closure pure “bullshit.” However, no alternative explanation is given, but it is clear that she believes there is something else behind the decision.
A League of Their Own is based on the 1992 film of the same name. Inspired by real events where a women’s baseball team battles opponents, both on and off the field in a narrow-minded society during the 40s.
On the other hand, the hi-tech thriller series The Peripheral with Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan as producers was one of the streaming giant’s big bets after the pandemic. Heavily lavished with a budget of around two billion Swedish riksdaler and an exciting ensemble with Chloë Grace Moretz as the big poster name, it also received good witticisms and a stable, though not overwhelming crowd of viewers. Here, the series had not only received the go-ahead for a second season, it had also already begun when the strike broke out in May, but now it is clear that there will be no continuation and Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan can therefore focus entirely on their next project , the adaptation of Fallout.
