RLCS 2023: G2 Esports in the play-offs - revenge against defending champions?

For G2 Esports, the title was within reach last year. The Berlin organization made it to the final, where they finally lost 4-1 to Team BDS and missed out on the triumph. Almost 365 days later, the World Championship of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) will meet again – albeit in the quarterfinals.

First with problems, then sovereign

G2 Esports made it there at the home World Cup via a detour. Having started successfully in Group B, Vice World Champion Gen.G Mobil1 clearly lost 4-1 after games. “She (Gen.G Mobil1, note d. editor) read G2 like a book,” said one of the commentators aptly. Defensively, Gen.G was usually one step ahead of its opponent. Nevertheless, G2 Esports showed mentality and tried to start a comeback – which could not be completed successfully.

So the Berlin organization slipped into the Lower Bracket, where Moist Esports was waiting, which in turn had knocked out FaZe Clan. However, G2 Esports was a size too big, in the end the German team won 4-0 and made it into the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Where revenge against Team BDS would be possible. The Swiss have been in good shape so far and qualified for the round of eight without losing.

This encounter kicks off at 4 p.m., followed by the semifinals at 6 p.m. before the title is played in the PSD BANK DOME at 7 p.m. Unlike the rounds before, single elimination now applies – whoever loses is eliminated. As before, the team that wins four games advances. The possible semi-final opponents for G2 Esports are Team Liquid or Spacestation Gaming, which were already encountered during the wildcard phase.
