Later today (February 21) at 3:00 p.m., Nintendo will provide a new Nintendo Direct stream intended for third parties. This means that we can’t expect any news about our own titles and certainly not about upcoming hardware.
Nevertheless, a fairly well-known Nintendo insider named Pyoro is now hinting that there will be something Gamecube-related during the stream. The Gamecube was codenamed Project Dolphin when it was in production, and Pyoro both uses dolphin emojis and writes about the animal, indicating that it has meaning. The most obvious guess would be that Nintendo is in the process of adding the Gamecube to the Switch Online subscription service, but then again, this is a partner showcase and not the place to talk about new Switch features.
Other educated guesses would be that third-party Gamecube classics (we wouldn’t mind Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem) are being remastered for the Switch. This would make sense, as there will reportedly be only a few games coming to the Switch by the end of the year if the rumors of Switch 2 being delayed to the first half of 2025 prove true.
