Nintendo has finally decided to announce that the Switch 2 is on the way, scheduled to be unveiled by March 2025 at the latest. Aside from the rumors, nothing is known about the new machine, and we don’t even know what it will ultimately be called.
As we already told you, it has the working name Muji, but based on available reports (Nintendo boss Shuntaro Furukawa calls it). “new switch model”) is a direct sequel to the Switch and therefore the branding is expected to be retained. Now the reliable Atlus and Sega insider Midori claims via X that Nintendo itself referred to the successor as “New Switch” and “Switch 2” in discussions with Sega. The latter may not be very surprising, but the former is more interesting as it follows the same naming convention that Nintendo gave to the best 3DS model (New Nintendo 3DS).
Midori writes that these names probably won’t be retained in the future, but that wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable since they’ve named hardware the same way before.
