The Portuguese’s Rocky story: “I earned 700 euros a month and now I’m fighting for a million and one world championship titles!”

The Portuguese's Rocky story:

Pedro “The Game” Carvalho may not seem like a household name to regional MMA fans. He is a mediocre fighter with a mediocre score (13-9) and hails from the Portuguese city of Braga. He currently competes in the PFL featherweight division and previously built his career under Bellator.

The Portuguese is a student of John Kavanagh and the Straight Blast Gym in Dublin. The Portuguese is not very active in the sport of MMA and he is only one of the few national representatives in the featherweight division. In an interview with Bloody Elbow, he briefly explained his life story: “My thoughts revolve more around the tape than money. But let’s be honest, I used to work between the hot walls of the factory for 700 euros, and now I’m chasing a million-dollar figure and a world championship belt.

The PFL usually organizes a format tournament, and the winner of each season in its category receives the “mythical” amount of one million US dollars. Carvalho tried to win a similar Grand Prix tournament in Bellator in 2020, but was eliminated early against icon Patricia Pitbull.

Right at the start of this PFL season, a few days ago, he lost to Brendan Loughane by technical knockout in the first round. It is an event at which the Slovenian representative Jakob Nedoh also appeared. Nothing is over for either of them as we are currently in the standings, but they need a quick end to the battles in their favor to win the bonus points and progress. A maximum of six points is awarded for a stoppage win in the first round.
