End of course for Varvara Gracheva in Cincinnati. The Frenchwoman lost Wednesday in the second round against the Russian Daria Kasatkina (6-3, 6-1), after 1h16 of play. She remained however on a victory against the 13th player in the world, already in the United States (Indian Wells) at the March.
Gracheva, who beat Caroline Wozniacki on Tuesday in the first round, completely broke down at the end of the first set. Broken twice, she dropped the first set and then trailed 5-0 in the second, losing eight straight games. If she saved the honor by taking a game, she ended up yielding from the first match point of Kasatkina, after two opportunities to break the Russian.
In the next round, Daria Kasatkina will face the winner of the match between American Ann Li and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.
