Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will participate in the US Open. The tournament formalized Wednesday the players who will benefit from a wild card, and the two women are part of it. At 43, the American will participate in the main draw of the US Open for the twenty-fourth time in her career. Injured for the majority of the season, she beat a top-20 player on Monday (Veronika Kudermetova) for the first time since 2019.
Wozniacki, 33, will play her first Grand Slam tournament since the Australian Open 2020. Retired since this tournament, she had two pregnancies before returning to Montreal at the beginning of August. Former world No. 1, she has already reached the final at the US Open twice (2009 and 2014).
Among the men, the Americans John Isner (38) and Steve Johnson (33) will also benefit from a wild card. Note that two French people have received an invitation under the agreement between the American federation (USTA) and the FFT: Fiona Ferro and Benjamin Bonzi.
