With a purchase option: FC Bayern lends Tillman to Eindhoven

After a short time back in Munich, Malik Tillman has a new club again. The offensive player is drawn to the west. As announced by FC Bayern, the 21-year-old is moving to PSV Eindhoven on loan for a year. According to the Dutch company, they also secured a purchase option. However, the traditional club did not name the exact amount.

“Malik Tillman has developed very well. We are convinced of his great potential, which is why we have extended his contract until 2026,” said Jochen Sauer, director of youth development at FC Bayern, in a club statement, emphasizing that the player “continues to play practice on needs at the highest level”. He should now get that in the Eredivisie under former Bundesliga coach Peter Bosz (Borussia Dortmund, Bayer 04 Leverkusen).

“We were looking for a player with a good goal finish and good technique in a small space,” said PSV football director Earnest Stewart, revealing that Tillman was “high priority” in Eindhoven: “He can play at a high level and we’re sure that he will quickly adapt to Dutch football.”

Breakthrough in Glasgow

In the summer of 2015, as a 13-year-old, Tillman moved from Fürth to Munich, where he became a professional. Ultimately, however, he could not recommend himself to the record champions for the first eleven. In 2021/22 he at least made it into the Bundesliga, came on four times for FCB and then also celebrated the championship. However, he did not have any real sporting prospects at Säbener Straße, which is why the midfielder agreed to a loan to Glasgow Rangers – the transfer proved to be a direct hit for all parties.

Tillman gained plenty of match practice in Scotland, was voted the best young player of the season by the Scottish FA and also made it to the US international. Glasgow, on the other hand, benefited from an impressive 12 goals and five assists from the attacking midfielder, who helped Rangers finish second in the table and qualify for the Champions League.

And the Bavarians? They got back a player who had earned his first spurs and increased his market value. Rangers would have loved to keep Tillman, but ultimately couldn’t afford him. VfB Stuttgart had also inquired, but it was not concrete. In the end PSV won the race.
